Saturday 30th July – bike **** – Around Felixstowe including lunch at Timley churches – sunny periods.

Toyed with the idea of a windsurf foil today but it looked marginal and with tomorrow and maybe a couple of days next week looking promising I decided to give it a miss and instead head out to lunch on our bikes. After a morning at home, we were a bit late setting off so chose the two churches at Trimley as our lunch time venue to be reached via Candlet Lane. We had a nice relaxing picnic at our bench in the churchyard with everything looking pretty parched, we did have a few spots of rain but nothing of any note, maybe some decent rain tomorrow? Well rested we walk out of the church yard when Mag spots some super big blackberries and we soon fill our sandwich container, that’s crumble sorted for next week, some birds are also enjoying the blackberries including a black bird and possibly a thrush? Then over the fields to the huge footbridge over the railway line leading to Grimston Lane where we spot a huge column of smoke from a field fire on the far bank of the River Orwell, with everything so dry it is very worrying times! Back through some of the tree lined path, stopping to feed the rudd and onto the dock railway where we have to stop for a long empty train to pass, Mag then heads for home while I continue down to Felixstowe dock view point to check the wind as it seemed pretty breezy out on the bikes! I just miss a large container ship berthing but stop to chat to a couple of people who have seen my many pics on Facebook as an old wooden barge sails out to sea:) A group are fishing on the old jetty and catch a good-sized bass, probably around 3 pounds! The wind is quite good up the rive but much lighter on the seafront, I might have got going on my foil with 7.5 but it looked marginal. Two sailors were out at The Manor, Al Wiz on his foil and Peter Goodchild on his longboard but it looked nothing special, hoping for better winds tomorrow! Home for a welcome cuppa and rock cake, a nice afternoon out and about around Felixstowe:)
